ASIS Standard PSC 3

IAMSP congratulates ASIS International on the acceptance of the Maturity Model for the Phased Implementation of a Quality Assurance Management System for Private Security Service Providers. With several members contributing on both the Technical Committee and Working Group, we are pleased to have been a part of a truly transparent development process that has resulted in a standard that makes sense for the maritime security industry.

These efforts, collaborating with other credible Associations, is part of IAMSP's efforts to ensure that the maritime security industry receives useful, clear, and concise guidance that can be shown to be free of outside interference and vested interests.

MSB Group Oversight Project Update

We are pleased to announce that the MSB Group Ltd project has completed its pilot project and passed its oversight markers. The MSB Group is a coalition of likeminded states and private entities that have come together to offer a clearly legal and supported logistical structure. IAMSP, as the senior community of maritime security professionals available at the inception of the project, was invited to provide independent oversight. At this point in time, the various members of the groups have asked for time to prepare their own statements with respect to their specific participation in the launching of this program. We are pleased to have been able to contribute to this important exercise and look forward to the next phase and implementation.

IAMSP Submits MSC.1/Circ 1405 Comments

IAMSP is pleased to announce that it has submitted its comments regarding MSC.1/Circ 1405. The document, while generally sound and providing valuable guidance, was reviewed by a number of members and the Executive of IAMSP. The result of significant discussions, research and other activities resulted in nearly eleven pages of qualitative comments being submitted to the International Maritime Organization for its consideration.
Drawing upon a community that includes master mariners, operators, certified security professionals, members of regulatory and oversight bodies, the comments identify many strengths and potential areas of improvement in the document given the challenges faced by the maritime security community today. The intent of putting these challenges forward is to ensure that the guidance provided yields the best possible results for the maritime industry and ensures that IAMSP's members are fairly and appropriately represented.
This effort is one of the tangible ways that IAMSP supports its membership--by assisting the providing a voice to its members on such important topics.
Full, Associate and Student members seeking a copy of the document submitted to IMO may request it through either the President or the Secretary / Treasurer of the Association. The document may also be made available through the website to members only in the near future.

ISSG Achieves Provisional Endorsement

"IAMSP Logo"

IAMSP is pleased to announce that ISSG Holdings has passed through the first phase of the Association's corporate vetting process. The first phase involves demonstrating (through documentation review, interview and observation) that the baseline requirements of the vetting process have all been met or are in the final phase integration.
These commitments are based on three principles--quality assurance, values and ethics, and sound management. Quality Assurance is measured against the requirements of the International Organizations for Standardization (ISO), taking into account the specific operations of the company. The second criteria, values and ethics, are measured against the International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers and supporting / parallel requirements. The third is based upon the requirements derived from the guidance provided by the IMO MSC 1/Circ 1405. Specific details regarding the standards used in the vetting are available by contacting the President of IAMSP.
The first phase is considered completed when the company agrees to mapping out a two year commitment to continuous improvement--demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the requirements described in the vetting process. These commitments are broken down into six month benchmarks that are overseen by the Association, ensuring that the company maintains its commitments over time.
This corporate vetting process reflects IAMSP's commitment to assisting the maritime industry in identifying organizations that have made significant and tangible commitments to sound practices within the maritime security domain. It also demonstrates our commitment to the maritime security industry to assist them in achieving and maintaining the highest of professional standards.
