We are pleased to announce that the MSB Group Ltd project has completed its pilot project and passed its oversight markers. The MSB Group is a coalition of likeminded states and private entities that have come together to offer a clearly legal and supported logistical structure. IAMSP, as the senior community of maritime security professionals available at the inception of the project, was invited to provide independent oversight. At this point in time, the various members of the groups have asked for time to prepare their own statements with respect to their specific participation in the launching of this program. We are pleased to have been able to contribute to this important exercise and look forward to the next phase and implementation.
- We are pleased to announce that our Quality Control Manual (QCM) has passed field application and is now being made available to Full and Associate members. Quality control plays a significant role by formalizing and standardizing the organization's ability to maintain appropriate service levels and also continuously improve those services. This need will likely be incorporated into a number of evolving standards.
- Based on ISO 9001:2008, the Quality Control Manual provides a detailed and well-documented framework that can be used to establish rigorous Quality Controls within the organization. The tool is clearly written, incorporates sample policies and procedures and also includes a number of working tools that can be used to help the organization demonstrate its compliance with the requirements. It is provided in Word format so as to allow corporations to customize it to their own corporate look-and-feel.
- This effort, undertaken by certain members of the IAMSP Executive, provides yet another clear example of how the Association is assisting its members in meeting and exceeding the highest of standards within the industry. The work is available to Full and Associate members who may request a copy of the work, understanding that it is covered by Non-Disclosure.
- Note: This work is provided, at no additional charge to Full and Associate members and can be obtained by requesting the document from the Secretary at email@example.com. Please ensure you include your name, company name and membership number in the subject heading for the request.
IAMSP is proud to announce the second phase of its eLearning and Distance Learning project with the establishment of the directed learning portal. While eLearning portal provides familiarization level training for those within the industry, the directed learning portal provides a forum where significantly advanced courses can be provided.
Utilising internet-enabled technology, the platform will allow for courses that are run over several days to be coordinated and delivered around the world. These courses will include the ability to set a more detailed curriculum, integrate directed readings and research, facilitate discussions through video-conferencing, and conduct online testing. The platform is comparable to those used by community colleges and certain universities and their respective distance learning programs.
Additionally, the system is being established to allow for the facilitated video-conferencing to be recorded, allowing for greater flexibility in recognition of those persons that may not be able to attend each and every session.
Announcements for the first online-course offering will be made to Full, Associate, and Student members shortly. While this is currently available to members only at this time, we are currently working to expand this into the broader maritime security community.
This is the second major gateway in our training and capacity-building project.
The passing of this gateway provides another clear and visible commitment of the Association as the leader in the development of a truly professional maritime security community.
IAMSP is proud to announce that it has passed another benchmark in its efforts to provide support for professionalization within the maritime security industry. The Vetting of Training document provides the framework within which the Association can assess training from providers that are seeking the Association's endorsement. This serves two purposes. First, it holds the provider to a high standard in the development of the training and then monitors that training to ensure that it is continuing to meet those requirements. Second, it ensures that the Association's efforts in this respect are both clearly understood and transparent to the submitter, holding the Association accountable for mmaintaining a clearly communicated, documented, repeatable and audit-able process.
This benchmark is one of the final steps in the Association's adherence to two key standards. The first, ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems(and its associated documents) describes a management system that ensures that the requirements of the client, in this case the submitter and the candidate, are met. The second tier of documents, including ISO 17024:2003 Conformity Assessment - General requirements for bodies operating the certification of persons is intended to ensure that the training being endorsed has been through a process that clearly demonstrates its relevance to the industry.
The Vetting of Training document can be accessed from the Vetting of Training page for those that have registered on the IAMSP website.
